Flowers are wedding tradition, they are a must. You will have multiple bouquets, boutonnieres and decor to plan, but where do you begin? Where should you go? First and foremost, before ANYTHING, sit down and create a budget. Usually couples spend around 8% of their wedding budget on flowers. Once you create a budget you can now begin to gather information. This is important before meeting with a florist to make the process run more smoothly. Consider things like your color scheme, what flowers are in bloom during your wedding season, how much certain flowers cost, and find inspiration on Pinterest or social media. Now you are ready to meet with a florist! Here are my top 10 picks for Utah based wedding florist.

INSPIRATION FROM BRIDES OVER THE DECADES

4/4/2019

Recycling fashion from past decades is not a new thing. The bridal world is constantly being inspired by the trends from past centuries. Let's go back in time and admire and find inspiration from the different wedding gown styles from the past decades.

1910

Picture
This decade was all about an empire silhouettes and natural waistlines. Gowns had long sleeves, veils, and trains. Elaborately detailed fabrics like silk, velvet, and chiffon were draped and embroidered or decorated with intricate beading. As a finishing touch brides added orange blossoms to their sashes.

1920

Picture
The roaring 20's is one of the funnest decades of fashion. A decade of  glitz, glamour, and liberation that the styles and trends embody. Silky and satin based gowns, dripping in beads feathers, and sequin. These wedding dresses were wildly elegant and free spirited with there elegant embroidery and fringe.
Picture

1930

Picture
1930 wedding dresses were inspired by old Hollywood star glamour. Silky satin gowns in pastels, white, ivory, and jewel tones. They added to the style of dresses from the 1920's, making the gowns longer and adding a little sparkle and simplicity for a timeless classic look that is carried into today's modern fashion. The 30's were comfortable and fabulous.

1940

Picture
The brides in the 40's were modest, feminine  and practical, because of the limited resources do to the war. Still brides were eternally stunning. Gowns were classic, either ivory or white and usually long sleeved. Fabrics were silk and lace. The dresses were simple and paired with a statement head piece creating a classic look.
Picture

1950

Picture
The 50's were a time of manufacturing and cheaper materials. Now every bride could afford and have the dress of her dreams. Inspired by Hollywood, the trend was small wastes and full skirts. They were crazy for silk, satin, and shiny fabrics covered in  lace and accented with gold and silver thread. Looks were always toped off with a short veil and a matching pair of gloves.
Picture

1960

Picture
The 1960's bride retained the trend of a tiny waste but hem lines were getting shorter and shorter. Think Cinderella at the ball. It was a time of celebration do to the end of the depression and the war. Brides paired their gowns with pill box hats, bouffants, or elaborate head bands. Towards the end of the 60's silhouettes started straightening out starting the trend that swept the 70's of the bohemian chic bride.
Picture

1970

Picture
Picture
The 70's was a transitional period as well as a time to experiment. Gowns were made from more natural fabrics like cotton, silk, and chiffon. Dresses were all different lengths and were draped with lace or embroidery. 70's dresses have a very free spirited vibe, nothing fit too tight and it was sexy. It was all about being different and unique in a care free way. Brides wearing pant suits started in this decade. The new invention of fabrics and advances in manufacturing started bringing back the big ball room type of dresses in the last years of the 70's.

1980

Picture
To sum up the trends of the 1980's in one word would be BIG. Big hair, big sleeves, and big skirts. Everyone took inspiration from princess Diana's extravagant wedding dress. Cathedral trains, collard necks, beads, ruffles, frills, and lace all on one dress. It was the decade of the princess look.
Picture

1990

Picture
Picture
The 90's left big behind in 80's for a more minimalist look. Tight and fitted silhouettes without  embellishments of lace and beads. Simple, more straightforward dresses were what was hot. The decade was all about combining glamour with American style. Understated chic was the popular look for brides.

2000

Picture
Strapless gowns, pick up skirts, and sashes  were sweeping the wedding dress industry and every women wanted one for their special day. Veils were no longer the norm and neither were gloves. Women toped of there look with flowers in their hair or a tiara in on their head.  Lace and beading were beginning to make a comeback. Dresses influenced by boho chic and were all about the brides personal style.

2010

Picture
Modern brides are making a mark in the bridal world. It is all about pushing the limits, uniqueness, and curve hugging gowns. Gowns are covered in lace, crystals, and textured details, combined with capes and tiaras. Plunging neck lines and colors are the thing. Brides are daring to be different with their wedding day attire. It's all about empowering the woman and looking effortlessly flawless.

10 COMMON MISTAKES BRIDES MAKE

1/22/2019

Wedding planing takes an enormous about of time and attention. It can require hundreds of decision big and small and with that, it can be easy to feel overwhelmed. To help you avoid these problems here is a list of the the top 10 most common mistakes that brides make while planing their special day.

1. Doing anything before your guest list

Picture
There is so many exciting things a bride has to look forward too when planing a wedding, the cake tasting, the registry, and of course the dress shopping. These are all important elements but it is extremely important to first create your guest list. The guest list determines so many important factors of a wedding, the food, the venue, and the budget.

2. Over whelming your partner

Picture
The are so many decisions that have to be made and an overwhelming time that needs to be set apart for preparing and planing a wedding. It can get chaotic and exhausting. It will be easy to get moody. There is no need to drag anyone into something they truly don't care about or get upset  and start a fight over over flowers. Keep in mind why you are doing it in the first place. It should be fun and exciting!

3. Not considering the weather

Picture
Rain is a game changer. Make sure that you check the wether if your wedding is going to be an out door event. Not planing for bad weather can be a very expensive result. Plan your budget for tents, umbrellas, or anything else that might help you prepare for the bad weather. Don't let it rain on your parade.

4. Assuming 10% of your guest will RSVP "no"

Picture
Brides always presume that about 10% of their guest with RSVP "no" and as a result they plan for smaller venues and less food. Always prepare for more guest than you think. You don't want to worry about running out of food or crowed venues. People bring plus ones, crash weddings, and don't always RSVP.

5. Skipping on a videographer

Picture
I know it might sound temping when trying to cut cost but I promise you nothing compares to being able to relive your wedding day in real time. Your wedding day is over in a blink of an eye and yes you have pictures but there is something so special about watching those candid, sweet, unrehearsed moments. Those are the details that make the pictures and solidify the memory.

6. Crash dieting

Picture
Attention, do not fall victim to crash dieting, it does not work. I know we all wish they did but they don't. The dress should fit you not the other way around. Make a commitment to eating healthy and exercising and make alterations if needed. Weight loss is a marathon not a race.

7. Hiring your friend instead of a pro

Picture
You are not doing anyone a favor by hiring your friends. I know they said they could dj or play photographer but it is a risk you should not be willing to take. People working weddings are usually under intense pressure and high stress. If something goes wrong it is easier to be straight forward as a client to a professional rather than trying to avoid conflict with a fiend. Plus you want your friends to be right there enjoying the wedding with you not worrying about getting pictures of everyone at the party.

8. Having a large gap between the ceremony and your reception

Picture
Neither you, your new husband, or your wedding party wants to be waiting around all day for the reception. You just got married, you probably don't even want to have a reception, you're probably just dying to get on your honey moon so you can have your new hubby all to your self. Make sure you plan your time appropriately.

9. Blowing your budget

Picture
Budgeting can be a nightmare no matter how much planing and research you do. Always try to put a little extra of your budget to the side for underestimates and emergencies. In case that you do underestimate your expenses don't panic. Take a deep breath, sit down with your partner and discus alternatives, items you can trade, and things you can live without.

10. Forgetting to have fun

Picture
If things don't go wrong when planing a wedding is it even a wedding? Don't sweat the small stuff. So often couples get so caught up in the minor details of everything that goes into a wedding that they forget they are marrying the love of their lives! It is a celebration all about the eternal love you have for each other. Make sure you enjoy it and make the best of every moment.
